2016 has gotten off to a very slow start for us. Our little fam has just been non-stop sick this week, but our medicine cabinet is restocked and things are looking good for the second week of the New Year! I love making goal lists, but I don't like to just throw them out there then ignore them - I'm all about reflecting back and finding out how I did! I set 15 goals for 2015, and only 3 failed so I'm feeling like I did pretty pretty good!
1.Read the Bible regularly (I make this a goal in some way every year, the word is the gift that keeps on giving and nourishes my soul! I can always improve on making it greater priority in my life.)
This isn't like a yes or no goal for completion, I just always like it at the top of the list as a reminder when I look through my goal list throughout the year.
2. Learn to sew
I'm so thankful my Granny taught me how to sew at the beginning of 2015! These baby bibs were one of our first sewing projects:
3. Use the exercise mat during floor time with Em (I spend a lot of time sitting on the floor with Emery that I could be putting to good use!)
This became a great habit! I haven't been working out at home as much now that Emery is bigger, preferring to meet friends at the gym in the early morning instead, so now I mostly use the mat for stretching and core exercises and Emery is always clambering around on me during! Gone are the days of her laying on the mat or on a blanket on the floor next to me, that's for sure.
Didn't happen this year, and that's totally fine. We did so many day hikes and seemed to always find great accommodations wherever we were, so I'm not disappointed at all that we didn't officially have a "family backpacking trip".
5. Read one novel (minimum) a month
Check! This was a fun goal and turned out to be super easy to achieve.
6. Master my new chemex coffee brewer
I've started every morning we're at home hovered over this brewer! I've learnt what quantities of coffee to put in and love every cup, especially with cinnamon and nutmeg sprinkled in!
7. Run a race - for fun
The Fall Classic 5km race at the end of September was completely just for fun, and running it the day after our first college cross country series race made for an epic start to the Fall racing season!
8. Read the book Blog Inc. and practice
Check! I read this book in the Spring, and I can tell because I went back to reference something in it recently and there are crusty old dandelions shoved between pages as place holders. I thought a lot about blogging and the book Blog Inc. in preparation for this student convention
9. Greet Hubby with a kiss when he walks in the door
I'm definitely going to go ahead and say I failed at this goal, haha. I had big intentions of making our home a super relaxing place for my husband to come home to after a long day at school and work, but I've been very guilty of being THIS mom this year (and quickly trading off the baby to rush off to running practice or wherever):
10. Plan, build and grow a backyard garden
Yup! This Spring/Summer we built two backyard raised garden beds, a potato garden row against the house, a berry garden, a patio herb garden, a front 3 tiered "salsa garden" AND our frontyard flower bed! PHEWF.
11. Sort and organize my iphoto
hahahahahaha.... NOPE.
12. Finish Mom's family photo album
Check! Last Christmas I put a photo album together of all our family photos and adventures since my brother and I got married and completed our family, up until last Fall when we each had baby girls. This year for Christmas I printed off photos from this past year of the 8 of us (mostly pictures of the little girls, obviously haha) for her to finish filling the album with!
13. Learn a new knitting stitch
My Granny taught me how to cable knit, and in the Spring I knit Emery this headband that she is just starting to fit into now. I'm glad that it's large though, and has a bit of stretch to it, because she is so NOT in a keeping-things-on-her-head phase right now so I hope it still fits when she finally is!
14. Fill and hang photo frames in our home
Check! We have been slowly hanging frames up all over our house. This gallery wall in our kitchen is the one I play around with most though, and have switched out the framed photos many times this year:
YES! And I am SO happy I made this a goal. Every week in my day planner I would slap on a stickie note titled "to do" and write up a big list. It was so rewarding to cross the items off each week, plus it was the saving grace for my scattered mom-brain this year.
Hmmm.. now to brainstorm some goals for 2016, because this last week hasn't counted and it's totally still the New Year!
xo.
