A few members of the college Wolves XC running team ran a race in Edmonton the weekend before, but for most of us this weekend marked the start of the Fall racing season! Our college hosted Saturday's race, which was a wicked hilly 2k then 3k loop (girls ran each loop once= 5km, boys ran the 2k loop then the 3k loop twice= 8km) out at the Nordic XC ski trails. It may have been our home turf, but hills and sandy uphill single track like that is always a shock! The women brought home the gold though :)
^^ the kid doing a little running of her own while the race was going on out on the trails ^^
^^ finishing in 8th place out of the ACAC women with a time of 23:47 ^^
Feeling so pumped up on post-run endorphins (plus those sweet baby smooches that Emery so kindly planted on me directly after the race!!) that my friend and I signed up to run the Fall Classic community 5km race in town the next morning! It's a super fun (and flat, hallelujah!) road race that I ran with my husband 2 years ago, although it always lines up on a weekend with a college series race.
Sunday morning, taking off from the park pavilion at 9am with the 180-some other racers (it's a popular race for the community):
^^ my friend 'chicked' the whole field with an impressive time of 18:31 ^^
^^ I came in 2nd for the females in 21:03, beating my time from two years ago by 40-some seconds which I'm really happy about! ^^
Needless to say, our legs felt a little stiff during Monday night's practice but we're pretty stoked on where we're headed this race season!
xo.
