My husband dreamt up the idea of this eavestrough patio garden and built it at the end of April. You can see how much chillier it was outside just by looking at the first set of photos. Now, this garden gets a ton of sun and heat and the herbs and strawberries planted in there are LOVING it.
This Spring was a busy time of building garden beds and landscaping our yard and I'm excited to be starting to share the beauty and life that those beds now contain! Starting with this patio herb garden:
^^ He cut eavestroughing to 5 foot lengths (they come in 10ft lengths so he just cut them in half), capped the ends and screwed boards on to the front from the inside, leaving that beautiful live edge. He mounted them to the fence using manufacturer brackets making sure that the screws weren't too long (so they don't come through the fence). I treated all the wood with a light caramel-y transparent stain called 'desert brown' (same as our front steps and front flower garden) ^^
Top left and right rows: strawberries
Right middle: mint and chocolate mint
Right bottom: basil
Left middle: Garlic chive and thyme
Left bottom: Parsley and sage
I love how near the herbs are to the kitchen, it makes going out and grabbing a handful to flavour up a dish very easy. Also herbs are apparently supposed to be great bug repellent so that should help make barbeques more enjoyable! We had dinner with friends on the patio last night and all remarked on the lack of bugs! Hallelujah.
xo.
