We started off our Jasper Park adventure by summiting Bald Hills the first day. My husband hadn't hiked it with us the first time I did, which was two years ago, when I was rocking a big ol' baby belly and he was training for the death race. So my parents and I just had to get him caught up on the beautiful views and terrain of Bald Hills! It was a great first hike to choose, with 10+ km of work offering an amazing panoramic reward at the top, but when we got to the trailhead we realized we left the baby backpack at home. So, Praise the Lord for shoulder rides and a willing husband and father to share the load :) It made this day hike a lot tougher and more interesting!
^^ Emery obviously didn't seem to mind our mistake ^^
Eventually she was too tired to even hold her head up and her chin kept bobbing down on my husbands head. He lowered her onto his back while she drifted off, but obviously that hunched hiking position couldn't fly for very long. Since my parents had been there 2 years ago, and they are very adoring grandparents haha, they opted to turn around here just before the summit and take Emery back down with them so my husband and I could explore the ridges. I can't find a photo of it, but my dad put his jacket on backwards with Emery tucked inside of it snuggled up against his front and down they headed! It was so sweet.
^^ I am super happy my husband and I were able to explore the ridge! It was so cool! ^^
^^ we also got to sit and watch this mama marmot caring for her two little ones which was adorable before we buckled our backpacks back on and headed down the hill to catch up to and care for our little one (although sometimes I think she prefers her grandparents ;) ) ^^
I am notorious for forgetting something important for Emery every time we travel. Last year on a 19km day hike I forgot to bring a fresh diaper (it was a full day hike, what was I thinking haha?!), so halfway through the hike I had take off my mid-lay-shirt and wrap it around her bum. When we went on a ski trip with my parents in January I forgot to bring Emery any bottles, and since my mom had recently hurt her back in an accident she was going to watch Emery for us during the day while we skied and we improvised a bottle by reusing a YOP yogurt drink bottle (we did buy her a set of bottles when the pharmacy opened in Jasper, but she was used to the YOP bottle by then and preferred it the rest of the weekend haha!). Kids are adaptable, and for a forgetful mama like me that is an absolute lifesaver!
