I have been so excited to share this project! It required all my favorite things to pull together: nature walks with my bible and a pumpkin spice latte, a trip to the craft store for the perfect frame, help from my hubby to make sure the leaves lined up just right and to save me from a glue catastrophe (more on that later) and it can only be made during my favorite season!
I went for this walk in September so I could gather leaves in all stages of change. As i turns out, my bible doubles as a flower press, so I left the leaves amidst the pages for a couple weeks until I found the perfect frame. Spreading out the leaves on the frame is the easy part, it's when glue is involved that it gets a bit sticky (pun intended!).
Now is when Julian became seriously involved in saving this project! The glass did not press the leaves tightly enough so when the frame was verticle leaves fell to the bottom. Simple fix: clear craft glue with a non-drip spout. I put a glue dot on every leaf, latched the frame closed, took this picture and then prompty forgot about the glueing process and set the frame up against the couch. After baking these apple muffins I returned to the living room to see glue dripping from the leaves to the bottom of the frame (entered stifled scream and bulging eye balls here!). Julian came home from work to save the day by separating the frames, without wrecking a single leaf, and I windexed off all the glue drips - THEN left the project to dry overnight - good as new!
Watching the seasons change from summer to autumn, and now autumn to winter, causes me to reflect on God's unstoppable goodness, unrelenting faithfulness and overwhelming grace - all of which are inevitable, just like the changing of the seasons. In the midst of hot summer days spent soaking up the sun and breathing in the warm, fresh air, I couldn't imagine autumn's arrival or watching the leaves fall again. Yet here I am, looking at a piece of art that proves the inevitable change of seasons. As Autumn came, so will God. Through any state of change, I know he will be with me and as he made the leaves come forth and change - he too calls me to come and be faithful to his will.
